We examined all accessible recent and older literature, data obtained from free online citizen science platforms and databases and other reliable sources to produce the first annotated, quality-controlled avifaunal checklist for Georgia. The final list contains 428 bird species, of which 412 species are confirmed with high quality data. Of the species recorded, 42 are listed on the IUCN Red List with threat status between Near-threatened and Critically Endangered. Our research has led to the addition of 21 new species to the Georgian bird list, while 16 other species were rejected.
